Why did Nebeus choose Modulr?

Nebeus is evolving into a Financial App for Crypto Hodlers by the incorporation of Money accounts. Nebeus made this upgrade possible via the partnership with Modulr Finance. Learn all about our new partner in this blog.

Since Nebeus was founded in 2014, we developed a whole ecosystem of crypto services, becoming an industry leader in Europe and extending our operations to over 120 countries.

Today, a new chapter begins for Nebeus.

Through a significant expansion of our services by the addition of Money Accounts to our portfolio, Nebeus is evolving into a Financial App for Crypto Hodlers. With this new service, users will have access to personal IBANs (EUR) or Sort Codes and Account Numbers (GBP) to use as their main financial accounts. This allows us to truly bridge crypto and fiat by bringing crypto closer to our users’ daily life.

We made this upgrade possible via our partnership with Modulr, the leading embedded payments platform. The needs and experiences of our users are our priority, and so we strive to serve them an exceptional app and platform. Because of this, we conducted extensive market research and negotiated with at least five different Payment Service Providers before choosing Modulr.

The decision process to choose Modulr to power our accounts and payments was robust and multi factored. The first one was Modulr’s reputation. They have a strong, worldwide recognisable brand that was established in 2015, with many years of experience. Moreover, they are partnered with key players in the fintech market as they have been Revolut’s GBP payments infrastructure provider since 2017. For us, it's critical that our partners share our aims and goals. Nebeus places a lot of importance on the fact that Modulr is trusted by reputable businesses recognised for their strong work ethics.

From a compliance perspective, Modulr is authorised and regulated as an Electronic Money Institution by the FCA (Modulr FS Ltd, FRN: 900573) and by the Central Bank of Ireland (Institution Code C191242) and registered in the Netherlands with company number 81852401, which is authorised and regulated by the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) as an EMI (Firm Reference Number: R182870) for the issuance of electronic money and payment services. In the payment and banking industries, this point is particularly essential as it gives the authorisation to offer a regulated service and to comply with established rules and requirements.

Therefore, Modulr is authorised and regulated by three major national regulators. Consequently, as an approved partner of Modulr, Nebeus is able to create e-money accounts for its customers and enable those customers to access payment services regulated by the FCA, De Nederlandsche Bank, and Central Bank of Ireland. This enables Nebeus to scale the new Finance offer across Europe in a compliant manner, setting a secure and trusted platform for its users.

On the operational side, since the beginning of the process, even before choosing them as partners and up to the time of writing, the communication between the Nebeus and Modulr teams has been seamless. For collaboration purposes, it is key to have fluent and effective dialogue, so both teams can bring the best of themselves and coordinate forces to make an impact.

For these reasons, we are excited to announce our new partnership with Modulr and hope that in the future, we can add more of their services to Nebeus to grow and scale our product efficiently.
